The Standardization, Production and Utilization of Biomethane in Europe and China - A Comprehensive Analysis
Abstract
The transition of the energy system from fossil to renewable sources is fostered in different regions of the world. Biomethane, as a substitute for natural gas, is one way to increase fuel independence by using local resources and reduce the environmental impact. This paper gives an overview of the possible application of biomethane in Europe (with focus on the EU) and China and discusses the relevance of coherent frame condition for market development. Both regions, Europe and China, have huge biomass respective biomethane potential and started already to implement a biomethane market, whereas the one in the EU is already well advanced. At the end of this study a recommendation for both areas for a stable and sustainable biomethane development is given.
